The quality of the skippers and crew members in the Nokia Oops Cup 2006 is better than ever. Some of the most well known and experienced sailors in the Nordic countries have been attracted by the intense and fast racing provided in the Nokia Oops Cup. Only seven crew are allowed on each boat. Seven crew carefully selected by each team. Seven crew that has to be experienced, physically strong and very motivated to stand six weeks of tough racing against the other teams, some including Olympic gold medallists, Whitbread Round the World Race winners and Americas Cup challengers.
To win the Nokia Oops Cup the crew must not only be world class sailors, they also need to know the
limits of their machines, their Formula 60 trimarans. These yachts are probably the most technically
advanced race boats you can find. It is a development class where everything is constructed as light
as possible, mostly using carbon fibre. As the boats are pushed to their very limits breakdowns are not
uncommon. It is crucial for crews and shore teams to be able to quickly repair damages.
